"Kernel version is 3" means that your kernel supports the Coda 6 venus/kernel
interface (with 128-bit fids & realms support), not the old version 5
interface. To use the old interface, either load coda5.ko instead of coda.ko,
or add "options CODA_COMPAT_5" to your kernel config (along with the usual
options required for Coda support). The alternative is to install Coda 6
instead of 5 from the ports collection.

I'm not sure about Linux; it will either have a similar option somewhere,
or you'll have to use Coda 6.
