Strange, I am unable to reproduce the problem here, I just did,

    $ rvmutl
    * i /tmp/y 2M
    * q
    $ ls -l /tmp/y
    -rw-r--r--   1 jaharkes coda      2098688 Oct 16 11:20 /tmp/y
