Well, I keep on finding these small problems. I can throw it out now
that everything seems to build, but maybe running the code for a day on
our servers will shake out the last couple of fatal bugs. (no promises
about the non-fatal ones ;)

You might be able to replace the venus->kernel stuff with
venus->unix-domain-socket and have the Zope application write `upcalls'
into it's end of the pipe.

I don't know, both AFS3 and Coda have deviated in many ways from their
common root, AFS2. There is probably little to no code that is still
shared between the two.
