I'm just looking through makeftree, the command that prints the error.
It is not that the physical partition is not found, but the entry for
/vicepa in the vicetab file is not found.

But your vicetab looked fine. Ok, let's check the following:

o What does `hostname' return.
o What does the nameserver return if you look up both xenon
  and the result of hostname.

Entries in the vicetab file are not used if the ip-addresses don't
    match.

o Are there multiple spaces between the fields in the vicetab file?

It looks like the `parser' could mess up when there is more than one
tab or space between the fields.
