The troubleshooting of server meltdowns which you refer to happened with
Coda ~6.9.4, in the years 2008-2009.

The problem remained unsolved but it gradually ceased, I guess due to us
phasing out old installations, both the old Coda clients and OS releases,
some kernel networking misbehaviour might have been the culprit or
possibly a trigger.
